Description

Overview of Tropical Storm Simon

During the eighteenth extraordinary session of the State Civil Protection Council, led by Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío, it was reported that Tropical Storm Simon is currently exhibiting sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching up to 95 km/h. As of 8:00 PM local time, the storm's center was located 400 kilometers southeast of Cabo San Lucas.

In light of these developments, the governor urged the residents of Baja California Sur to stay informed and heed the recommendations from local authorities.

"I call upon the population to remain vigilant and to follow the guidance of our emergency services as we monitor the situation closely,"

Castro stated during the session.

Expected Weather Impact

According to the forecast presented at the council meeting, Simon is expected to evolve into a tropical depression and later dissipate into a remnant. However, it is anticipated that the storm will still generate localized rainfall, particularly in the southern region of the state over the coming days. The potential for heavy rains raises concerns about flooding and other weather-related hazards.

The governor emphasized the importance of preparedness, especially as the storm could affect various areas of the state.

"We must be ready for any eventuality, as the weather can change rapidly. Our priority is the safety of our citizens,"

he added.

Port and Coastal Safety Measures

In terms of maritime safety, it was announced that the port of La Paz remains open for navigation, while other ports will stay closed until further notice due to a cold front. Additionally, there is a forecast of wave heights reaching up to two meters on Friday and Saturday. Residents are urged to exercise extreme caution in coastal areas and to avoid exposing themselves to dangerous situations.

"We are working closely with the Navy and other agencies to ensure that our coastal communities are safe during this time,"

Castro noted, highlighting the collaborative efforts of various government entities.

The governor also recognized the Mexican Army for its role in disaster response, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the DN-III-E Plan, a crucial framework for providing assistance during natural disasters.

"The DN-III-E Plan has been instrumental in our disaster response efforts, and we are grateful for the dedication of our armed forces,"

he remarked.

The next session of the State Civil Protection Council is scheduled for Friday, October 16, at 8:00 AM, to continue monitoring the evolution of Simon and to discuss conditions related to Hurricane Trudy. This ongoing vigilance underscores the commitment of local authorities to safeguard the well-being of the community as they face the challenges posed by tropical storms.
