Governor Castro Advances Housing Initiatives in Baja California Sur

Meeting Overview
Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío recently led a crucial follow-up meeting on the Housing for Welfare Program in Baja California Sur. The meeting included key figures such as Edna Elena Vega Rangel, the Secretary of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (SEDATU), and Rodrigo Chávez Contreras, the General Director of the National Housing Commission (CONAVI). This gathering aimed to assess the progress made in the state regarding housing initiatives and to strategize on expanding access to dignified housing for families in the region.
During the meeting, the officials reviewed the results achieved so far and discussed actions aimed at enhancing the collaboration between the Mexican government and the state administration. The focus was on ensuring that more families in Baja California Sur can secure adequate housing, which is a pressing need in the area.
Investment and Impact
According to the information presented at the meeting, a total of 2,152 homes have already been contracted for construction, representing an investment of 22,158 million pesos. This initiative is projected to benefit approximately 169,000 individuals, which is a significant step towards the six-year goal of constructing 46,000 homes in Baja California Sur.
"The coordination with the Government of Mexico is fundamental to address the housing needs of families and to move towards an orderly growth of Baja California Sur,"
emphasized Governor Castro during the meeting.
The distribution of the contracted homes varies by municipality, with La Paz accounting for 656 homes, Loreto for 792, and Los Cabos for 704. Notably, out of the total contracted, 1,656 homes are associated with CONAVI projects, while 496 are linked to INFONAVIT.
Broader Housing Strategy
The meeting also provided insights into the results related to housing regularization and improvement, as well as credit conditions. These aspects are crucial in complementing the overall strategy to facilitate access to housing for the population and enhance their assets. The discussions highlighted the importance of not only building new homes but also ensuring that existing housing is improved and made accessible to those in need.
"We are committed to improving the living conditions of our citizens and ensuring that everyone has access to a dignified home,"
Castro added, reinforcing the government's dedication to this cause.
The collaborative efforts between state and federal authorities are seen as essential in tackling the housing crisis in Baja California Sur. The meeting underscored the importance of ongoing dialogue and cooperation to meet the housing demands of the population effectively.
As Baja California Sur continues to grow, the need for sustainable and affordable housing becomes increasingly critical. The initiatives discussed in this meeting are a step towards addressing these challenges and ensuring that families have a place to call home. The commitment from both the state and federal governments signals a proactive approach to one of the most pressing social issues in the region.
