Supporting Cultural Heritage in Baja California Sur

The Governor of Baja California Sur, Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío, recently led an event to distribute resources from the Municipal and Community Culture Support Program (PACMyC) to 31 artisans and creators across the state's five municipalities. This initiative represents an investment of 4 million pesos aimed at projects that contribute to the preservation of local traditions, crafts, and cultural expressions.

During the ceremony held at the Cultural Unit Professor Jesús Castro Agúndez, the governor urged participants to approach their projects with responsibility and dedication. He emphasized the importance of these initiatives in maintaining the cultural fabric of the region, which is rich in history and tradition.

"We must work together to ensure that our cultural roots remain alive and vibrant,"

Castro Cosío stated during the event.

A Significant Increase in Support

For the 2026 edition of PACMyC, a total of 60 proposals were submitted from various municipalities, with 31 projects ultimately selected for funding. These projects encompass a wide range of cultural activities, including the preservation of leatherworking, the rescue of ancient community stories, the production of community cinema and short films, and the creation of crafts using dead wood, fish skin, and scales.

This year’s funding marks a significant increase in support for cultural initiatives, with resources allocated to PACMyC growing by 300 percent from 2021 to 2026. This expansion has opened up new opportunities for communities to engage in projects that reflect their unique traditions and forms of expression.

"The increase in funding is a testament to our commitment to cultural preservation and community development,"

the governor added.

Future Prospects for Cultural Initiatives

In light of this growth, Castro Cosío announced plans to allocate even more resources to the program in the future. The goal is to further support artisans and creators in their efforts to keep alive the cultural expressions of everyday life in Baja California Sur. This initiative not only aims to preserve the region's heritage but also to empower local communities by fostering creativity and cultural pride.

"We will continue to invest in our cultural programs to ensure that our heritage is not only preserved but celebrated,"

he concluded.

The PACMyC program plays a crucial role in sustaining the cultural identity of Baja California Sur, providing vital support to those who dedicate their lives to preserving the region's rich traditions. As these projects unfold, they promise to enrich the cultural landscape and engage future generations in the appreciation of their heritage.
