Government of BCS Urges Citizens to Stay Informed During Rainy Season

Preventive Actions in Response to Weather Conditions

In light of the ongoing rainy season and the threat of tropical cyclones, the government of Baja California Sur (BCS) has reiterated its call for citizens to remain vigilant and informed. Claudia Elena Meza de la Toba, the acting Secretary General of Government, led a working meeting with state and municipal authorities to address the current weather conditions affecting the Mexican Pacific. This proactive approach aims to ensure that residents are prepared for any potential weather-related emergencies.

During the meeting, Meza de la Toba was accompanied by Héctor Amparano Herrera, the Undersecretary of Civil Protection in the state, and Jehú Fernando Vázquez Savín, the Secretary General of the La Paz City Council. The officials emphasized the critical importance of adhering to official warnings and recommendations, as well as implementing preventive measures before, during, and after any hydrometeorological events.

"These rains are typical of the season that began on May 15 and will conclude on November 30, so it is essential to stay alert to the warnings and forecasts issued by official agencies to prevent risky situations. In terms of civil protection, prevention and self-care are essential,"

she stated.

Current Weather Patterns and Forecasts

As of now, 13 weather phenomena have been recorded out of the 18 to 21 that are expected during this season. The government has alerted the public that rainfall is likely to continue in the coming days, prompting a series of recommendations aimed at safeguarding lives and property. Citizens are urged to avoid crossing streams, reinforce roofs and water tanks, trim trees, and follow other preventive measures.

The meeting also highlighted the ongoing efforts of the State Civil Protection Council, which is maintaining constant monitoring of meteorological conditions in collaboration with the five municipal councils and relevant agencies. This coordinated approach is vital for timely responses to any emerging threats posed by the weather.

Meza de la Toba added.

In her closing remarks, Meza de la Toba reiterated the importance of consulting the warnings from the National Meteorological Service (SMN), an agency of the National Water Commission (Conagua), as well as the civil protection authorities at the federal, state, and municipal levels. This emphasis on information underscores the government's commitment to public safety and preparedness.

"We must all take responsibility for our safety and that of our families by staying informed and following the guidelines provided by our authorities,"

she concluded.
