Government of BCS Allocates 100 Million Pesos to Address Electrical Issues in Schools

Investment in Educational Infrastructure

The government of Baja California Sur, through the Institute of Physical Educational Infrastructure (ISIFE), has announced a substantial investment of 100 million pesos for the 2026-2027 school year. This funding aims to address electrical failures in schools across all five municipalities of the state. Pablo Cota Núñez, the director of ISIFE, emphasized the importance of these improvements for the educational environment.

"We are committed to ensuring that students and staff can perform their activities in suitable spaces,"

Cota Núñez stated during a recent briefing.

Prior to the start of the school year, ISIFE conducted assessments and initiated repairs in 30 schools that exhibited various electrical deficiencies. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to enhance the safety and functionality of educational facilities, particularly concerning the regularization of electrical loads necessary for operating air conditioning units.

Ongoing Challenges and Solutions

In addition to the planned investments, ISIFE is actively addressing ongoing challenges such as cable theft, which has become a significant issue affecting the electrical infrastructure in schools. Cota Núñez highlighted the collaboration with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to tackle these problems effectively.

"We maintain constant coordination with CFE to resolve these cases and ensure a stable electrical supply in our schools,"

he remarked.

The collaboration aims to provide a reliable electrical system that supports not only the basic functions of the schools but also the comfort of students and teachers, particularly in the hot climate of Baja California Sur.

Historical Context and Future Plans

During the current administration, over 200 million pesos have been allocated to improve the electrical infrastructure of schools at various educational levels, including early childhood, preschool, primary, and secondary education. Most of these enhancements have taken place in Los Cabos and La Paz, demonstrating a targeted approach to areas with the greatest need.

"These actions have been carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Public Education and with the authorization of CFE,"

Cota Núñez explained, underscoring the collaborative efforts involved.

As part of these initiatives, ISIFE is also ensuring that all construction meets established criteria for inclusivity. This includes the installation of ramps for wheelchair users and accessories that facilitate the use of restrooms and sinks for all students.

The commitment to improving school infrastructure in Baja California Sur reflects a broader recognition of the importance of safe and functional educational environments. With the planned investments and ongoing efforts to address electrical issues, the government aims to foster a better learning atmosphere for future generations.
