Government Allocates One Million Pesos to Support Fishing and Aquaculture in Los Cabos

Strengthening Local Industries
The Governor of Baja California Sur, Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío, recently led an initiative to deliver one million pesos in financial support to local fishing and aquaculture producers in Los Cabos. This initiative is part of the State Program for Productive Fishing and Aquaculture Support and the activities of “El Maíz Nos Une.” The primary goal is to bolster productive activities and improve the living conditions of those who rely on the sea for their livelihoods.
During the event, four outboard motors, a batch of fishing gear, and safety equipment were distributed, benefiting two cooperatives and four permit holders. These resources are expected to enhance the operational conditions for 15 local producers, thereby contributing to the growth of both commercial and sport fishing in the region.
Commitment to Local Producers
Governor Castro Cosío emphasized his administration's commitment to support productive sectors that create jobs, generate income, and enhance the well-being of families and communities in Baja California Sur. He stated:
"Our government is dedicated to backing the productive sectors that generate employment, income, and well-being for our families and communities."
This support is not only aimed at improving productivity but also at ensuring that the benefits derived from the utilization of natural resources remain within the state. The governor reiterated the importance of protecting the interests of local service providers involved in whale watching, swimming with whale sharks, and orca observation, ensuring that these activities contribute to the local economy.
Environmental Sustainability Initiatives
In addition to the financial support for fishing activities, the governor also distributed 300 trees for planting in areas where producers operate. This initiative aims to contribute to environmental care, conservation of natural resources, and the promotion of sustainable productive practices. Castro Cosío remarked:
"We are committed to fostering practices that not only support our economy but also protect our environment for future generations."
This dual approach of supporting economic growth while promoting environmental sustainability reflects a broader vision of development that prioritizes social justice and shared well-being. The governor's actions align with the state's ongoing efforts to balance economic activities with ecological preservation, ensuring that the benefits of natural resources are enjoyed by all residents of Baja California Sur.
The allocation of funds and resources to the fishing and aquaculture sectors marks a significant step towards revitalizing these industries, which are vital for the local economy. As the government continues to implement supportive measures, the hope is that these initiatives will lead to a more prosperous and sustainable future for the fishing communities in Los Cabos.
