Monthly Meeting Addresses Concerns of Families

The State Commission for the Search of Persons in Baja California Sur (CEBPBCS) convened a significant monthly meeting in Los Cabos with families and representatives of collectives of missing persons. This meeting, coordinated by the General Secretariat of Government, brought together authorities from all three levels of government to address pressing issues faced by the families of the disappeared.

During the meeting, the state commissioner, Lizeth Collins Collins, emphasized the importance of listening to the families' concerns and reviewing ongoing search and investigation efforts. She stated that the meeting served as a platform for families to voice their needs and experiences regarding the search for their loved ones.

"We are here to ensure that the voices of the families are heard and that their concerns are addressed effectively," Collins Collins remarked. "Our commitment is to work together to find solutions that can aid in the search for the missing."

Initiatives for Prevention and Support

As a result of the discussions, several initiatives were agreed upon to enhance the support provided to families and to prevent further disappearances. One of the key outcomes was the decision to continue training programs aimed at preventing disappearances in schools throughout the municipality. This proactive approach aims to educate young people and the community about safety and awareness.

Additionally, the meeting highlighted the need for actions to assist individuals living on the streets, as they often have connections to families that can aid in locating missing persons. The commission recognized that addressing the needs of vulnerable populations is crucial in the broader context of disappearance prevention.

"We must extend our reach to those who are most at risk and ensure that they have the support they need to reconnect with their families,"

Collins Collins added.

Legal Support and Ongoing Dialogue

The meeting also focused on enhancing the dissemination of information regarding the special declaration of absence and the rights of victims. It was agreed that legal support would be offered to families who request it, ensuring they have access to the necessary resources to navigate the complex legal landscape surrounding disappearances.

Furthermore, the commission committed to securing supplies for search efforts and maintaining regular meetings to foster ongoing dialogue with families of the disappeared across all five municipalities in the state. This continuous engagement is seen as vital for building trust and ensuring that families feel supported in their search efforts.

"These meetings will continue as a mechanism for dialogue and follow-up with families of missing persons," Collins Collins concluded. "Our goal is to create a supportive environment where families can feel empowered and informed."

The collaboration between various government agencies, including the Secretariat of Public Security, the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Investigation and Prosecution of Forced Disappearance, and local authorities, underscores the commitment to addressing this critical issue in Baja California Sur. The ongoing efforts reflect a community-driven approach to tackling the challenges posed by disappearances and ensuring that families receive the support they need.
