Citizen collaboration remains the best defense for our coasts. This March 2026, a successful cleanup day was held at El Paceño beach in La Paz, thanks to close coordination between local authorities and Scout Group 2 Albatros. Dozens of volunteers collected plastics, glass, and microplastics that threaten marine biodiversity. This activity aims for both immediate sanitation and raising awareness among users about proper waste disposal.

From a waste management and coastal ecology perspective, the presence of plastics leads to physical and chemical degradation. The accumulation of microplastics per square meter is modeled by the deposit rate minus the natural removal and human cleanup rates.
In 2026, the involvement of youth groups like the Scouts is essential for instilling an ethical respect for the natural environment. The La Paz City Council highlighted that while municipal collection exists, human effort and community vigilance are what truly protect high-traffic beaches.

In conclusion, visitors to BCS beaches are recommended to follow the "pack it in, pack it out" rule. Keeping our beaches clean is a shared responsibility. For the remainder of 2026, the community cleanup calendar is expected to expand to other critical areas of the Malecón and nearby beaches.
