A Comprehensive Strategy for Detection and Care

In a significant move to bolster women's health services, the government of Baja California Sur has initiated a comprehensive strategy aimed at enhancing the detection and timely care of breast and cervical cancer. With an investment exceeding 14 million pesos, this initiative introduces a mobile mammography unit, a cervical screening unit, and a colposcopy clinic in Cabo San Lucas.

During the launch ceremony, Health Secretary Ana Luisa Guluarte Castro emphasized the importance of accessibility in healthcare, stating that the mobile mammography unit will travel across all five municipalities to provide free screenings to women in remote and hard-to-reach communities.

"We are committed to ensuring that every woman has access to essential health services, especially in areas where healthcare facilities are limited,"

she remarked.

Expanding Services Across the Region

Previously, the State Health Services only operated a single mammography unit located in La Paz. Now, with additional equipment in Santa Rosalía and Cabo San Lucas, the region is better equipped to tackle the pressing issue of cancer among women. The introduction of the mobile unit is particularly crucial, as it allows for proactive measures in communities that may not have regular access to such services.

In addition to the mammography services, a mobile unit dedicated to cervical cancer detection has been established. This unit will conduct free screenings in various communities throughout the state. Patients requiring further evaluation will be referred to the colposcopy clinic at the IMSS-Bienestar Hospital in Cabo San Lucas, where necessary diagnostic tests can be performed to confirm or rule out cancer and initiate treatment if required.

"Early detection is key to improving survival rates, and we are taking steps to make sure that no woman is left behind in this fight against cancer,"

Guluarte Castro added.

Additional Healthcare Improvements

The ceremony also marked the reopening of the mobile hospital in Cabo San Lucas, which received nearly 3 million pesos in funding to expand medical services in this municipal delegation. This development is expected to enhance the overall healthcare infrastructure in the area, providing residents with better access to medical care.

Furthermore, the new Medical Emergency Regulatory Center (CRUM) in Los Cabos, which was established with an investment of 3.6 million pesos, aims to improve the coordination of pre-hospital services. This center is a vital addition to the healthcare system, ensuring that emergency medical services are more efficient and responsive to the needs of the community.

"With these new facilities and services, we are taking a significant step forward in our commitment to public health and safety in Baja California Sur,"

concluded Guluarte Castro.

The government's proactive approach to women's health and emergency services reflects a growing recognition of the importance of accessible healthcare in improving the quality of life for all residents in Baja California Sur.
