Strengthening Identification Processes

The State Commission for the Search of Persons in Baja California Sur has taken a significant step towards improving forensic investigations by delivering specialized equipment to the Directorate of Forensic Services of the State Attorney General's Office (PGJE). This initiative involves an investment of 5 million 227 thousand 686 pesos, aimed at bolstering efforts to identify unidentified deceased individuals.

The state commissioner for the Search of Persons, Lizeth Collins Collins, announced that the acquisition of this equipment was made possible through a federal subsidy project for 2026. Collins emphasized that this investment will enhance the collection and analysis of genetic samples from both deceased individuals and their relatives.

"This equipment will allow us to conduct genetic studies under quality standards and obtain reliable results, which are essential for advancing human identification processes,"

said Collins.

Advanced Equipment for Genetic Analysis

Among the materials acquired are kits for the extraction of human DNA from bones and teeth, kits for obtaining nucleic acids, and PCR amplification systems for 27 markers. Additionally, the resources include polymers for genetic analyzers and sample collection cards. This comprehensive package not only aims to improve the identification process but also includes preventive maintenance for the equipment used in DNA extraction and identification.

The introduction of such advanced tools is expected to significantly enhance the capabilities of forensic teams in Baja California Sur. By utilizing these resources, authorities hope to expedite the identification of missing persons, providing closure to families who have long awaited answers regarding their loved ones.

Commitment to Human Rights

Collins reiterated the government's commitment to maintaining institutional coordination in the search, location, and identification of individuals, emphasizing the importance of respecting the human rights of victims and their families throughout the process. This approach aims to ensure that the dignity of those affected is upheld while facilitating the necessary investigative work.

"We are committed to working collaboratively and with full respect for the human rights of victims and their families,"

Collins stated, highlighting the importance of a compassionate approach in these sensitive cases.

The delivery of this specialized equipment marks a crucial development in the ongoing efforts to address the issue of missing persons in Baja California Sur. As forensic science continues to evolve, the integration of advanced technologies into investigative practices is vital for achieving justice and accountability in cases of unidentified deceased individuals.

The collaboration between state agencies and the federal government through the provision of resources underscores the importance of a unified approach in tackling the challenges posed by missing persons cases. With these new tools at their disposal, forensic teams are better equipped to provide answers to families and contribute to the overall safety and well-being of the community.
