Enhanced Efforts to Combat Dengue in Comondú

Strengthening Community Health Initiatives
The Secretary of Health and the City Hall of Comondú have agreed to intensify cleaning campaigns aimed at eliminating mosquito breeding sites in Ciudad Constitución. This decision comes in response to a rising number of probable and confirmed dengue cases in the area. Health Secretary Ana Luisa Guluarte Castro announced the collaboration following a meeting with Mayor Roberto Pantoja Castro and the municipal council.
"Given the active transmission of the disease in this locality, the Secretary of Health is maintaining daily fumigation campaigns and intensifying larval control efforts through home visits, with an increased number of brigadistas in high-incidence areas,"
Guluarte Castro stated.
The local health authorities are taking proactive measures to combat the dengue outbreak, which has affected numerous residents. The Secretary emphasized the importance of community involvement in these initiatives, as the elimination of potential breeding sites is crucial to controlling the mosquito population.
Comprehensive Strategies for Dengue Control
In addition to the ongoing fumigation efforts, the health department has acquired rapid tests for dengue detection and has trained medical personnel to enhance patient care. The State Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (COEPRIS) will also conduct inspections at local establishments to ensure that measures are in place to prevent mosquito reproduction.
"We have fumigated over 13,000 hectares in the municipality of Comondú and visited more than 1,500 homes through our larval control brigades,"
Guluarte Castro reported.
These extensive efforts reflect a commitment to safeguarding public health and preventing further spread of the disease. The availability of larvicides, previously known as abate, has also been established at the offices of the Sanitary Jurisdiction 1 Comondú, allowing residents to access necessary resources to combat the mosquito problem.
Community Engagement and Education
The Secretary of Health explained that while fumigation targets adult mosquitoes, the removal of larvae necessitates the elimination of containers and objects that can collect water. This highlights the critical need for community participation in the descacharrización (clean-up) campaigns to prevent the formation of mosquito breeding grounds.
"It is essential to reinforce the cleaning campaigns to avoid the creation of breeding sites,"
she added, stressing the role of residents in maintaining a clean environment.
The collaborative efforts between the health department and the city government aim not only to address the immediate health crisis but also to foster long-term awareness and education about dengue prevention. By engaging the community and providing the necessary tools and information, local authorities hope to mitigate the impact of dengue and protect public health effectively.
As the situation evolves, the health department remains vigilant and committed to implementing strategies that prioritize the well-being of the residents of Comondú, ensuring that they are equipped to combat this public health challenge.
