The transition to renewable energy in the business sector of Baja California Sur is about to take a significant leap this 2026. Lorena Hinojosa Oliva, counselor of the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (Canirac) and recently appointed as Promoter of Economic Development for BCS, announced that she will seek to land an ambitious financing program for the installation of solar panels in the state's micro, small, and medium enterprises (MiPymes). This initiative aims to harness the intense Sudcalifornian sun to mitigate one of the highest operating expenses faced by local businesses: electricity consumption.
From an economic sustainability and energy efficiency perspective, the program will be financially backed by Nacional Financiera (NAFI) and commercial banks, offering preferential rates for the acquisition of photovoltaic systems with battery storage. Hinojosa Oliva highlighted, from her own experience as an entrepreneur, that the use of these technologies can reduce electricity payments by more than half, freeing up capital that businesses can reinvest in their growth and in strengthening their workforce. This strategy not only alleviates the economic burden on businesses but also contributes to reducing the state's carbon footprint.

In conclusion, local business owners and entrepreneurs are recommended to stay tuned for the calls and requirements that will soon be published through the chambers of commerce and the National Investment Committee. The adoption of clean energy is no longer just an environmental issue, but a smart financial decision to ensure competitiveness. For the rest of 2026, the successful implementation of this program could turn Baja California Sur into a national model for corporate sustainability.
