Children's Council

A New Era for Youth Participation

The IV Children's Council of Los Cabos held its first ordinary session, marking a significant step towards empowering children and adolescents in the region. During this session, seven committees were established, allowing young participants to engage in the development of proposals that address their specific needs. This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure that the voices of children and adolescents are heard in public matters affecting their lives.

The session was led by Bilma Ojeda Martínez, the Executive Secretary of the Municipal System for Comprehensive Protection of Children and Adolescents (SIPINNA) of Los Cabos. She emphasized the importance of this council as a platform for effective participation, stating:

"This stage will allow the members of the IV Children's Council to develop and present proposals for the benefit of the children and adolescents of Los Cabos."

The establishment of these committees represents a commitment to creating a more inclusive municipality where the rights of children and adolescents are prioritized. The council aims to foster an environment where young voices can influence decisions that impact their lives.

The Structure of the Committees

The seven committees formed during the session cover a range of crucial areas, including:

  • Environment

  • Culture

  • Rights of Children and Adolescents

  • Education

  • Sports

  • Public Services

  • Social Development

Each committee will focus on specific initiatives aimed at addressing the unique challenges faced by children and adolescents in the community. This structured approach allows for targeted discussions and the development of actionable proposals that can be presented to local authorities.

Ojeda Martínez highlighted the significance of these committees, noting:

"Through these spaces, the members of the Children's Council will work on initiatives aimed at building a more inclusive municipality with a rights-based approach."

This initiative not only empowers youth but also encourages them to take an active role in shaping their community. The council's work will be closely linked with relevant municipal departments to ensure that their proposals receive the attention they deserve.

A Step Towards Inclusive Governance

The Los Cabos City Council has expressed its commitment to listening to the proposals generated through this participatory exercise. By integrating the perspectives of children and adolescents into public policy, the municipality aims to create a more responsive governance structure that reflects the needs of all its citizens.

The SIPINNA's efforts to strengthen the participation of young people in public affairs are crucial for fostering a sense of responsibility and community engagement among the youth. As they work on their proposals, these young council members will not only learn about civic responsibility but also about the importance of advocacy and representation.

In conclusion, the IV Children's Council of Los Cabos is paving the way for a future where children and adolescents are not just passive recipients of policies but active contributors to the decision-making processes that affect their lives. This initiative is a promising step towards a more inclusive and equitable society for all.

"The proposals that arise from this participatory exercise will be heard and linked with the corresponding areas for their attention."
