Empowering Youth in La Paz: The 'Sexducate' Initiative

A Step Towards Informed Decisions
In an effort to combat unplanned pregnancies among adolescents and provide reliable information to the younger generations, the Instituto Sudcaliforniano de la Juventud (ISJuventud) has launched the 'Sexducate' strategy in La Paz. This initiative, in collaboration with DKT School by Prudence, aims to educate students through engaging activities that promote informed decision-making regarding sexual health and reproductive rights.
The 'Sexducate' program is part of the broader efforts of the Grupo Estatal para la Prevención del Embarazo en Adolescentes (GEPEA). Over the past year, it has reached more than 20 high schools, providing information to over 1,300 young people. The program utilizes various educational methods, including talks, informational modules, and interactive activities like “100 Young People Said.” This multifaceted approach ensures that the youth receive comprehensive knowledge about sexual health.
"For the State Government, it is a priority that young people have the tools to make conscious decisions about their present and build a life project aligned with their goals and aspirations,"
stated Laura Isabel López Pérez, the general director of ISJuventud.
Creating Safe Spaces for Dialogue
The recent event in La Paz not only served as an educational platform but also created a safe space for young individuals to ask questions, share knowledge, and learn about sexuality, prevention, and family planning in a dynamic and approachable manner. The participation of DKT School by Prudence was significant, as they provided free kits containing condoms and other essential supplies for sexual health care.
This initiative is crucial in a society where misinformation about sexual health can lead to serious consequences. By fostering an environment where young people feel comfortable discussing these topics, the program aims to reduce stigma and encourage responsible behavior among adolescents.
"The journey allowed us to generate a space of trust to resolve doubts and learn about sexuality in a close and dynamic way,"
added López Pérez, highlighting the importance of open communication in sexual education.
Collaborative Efforts for Broader Impact
The 'Sexducate' strategy is not a standalone effort; it involves collaboration with various organizations, including SIPINNA and the Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP). By working together through different educational subsystems and institutions, the program seeks to expand its reach and strengthen sexual and reproductive education among the youth of Baja California Sur.
The collaborative nature of this initiative underscores the importance of community involvement in addressing public health issues. By bringing together educational institutions, government agencies, and health organizations, the program aims to create a comprehensive support system for young people navigating their sexual health journeys.
As the 'Sexducate' initiative continues to roll out across La Paz, it stands as a beacon of hope for young individuals seeking guidance and knowledge about their sexual health. The proactive measures taken by ISJuventud and its partners reflect a commitment to empowering the next generation with the information they need to make informed choices about their bodies and futures.
