Emergency Medical Care System Achieves Milestone in Baja California Sur

Significant Achievements in Emergency Services
The Emergency Medical Care System (SAMU), under the Ministry of Health, has successfully provided over 12,000 free and timely services in the last 12 months. This achievement is part of the current administration's efforts to enhance pre-hospital care in Baja California Sur.
During a session of the Sectoral Health Subcommittee, Health Secretary Ana Luisa Guluarte Castro emphasized the importance of SAMU, which was established to comply with the Pre-Hospital Medical Care Law. The system has significantly reduced response times to emergency calls made by citizens through the 911 emergency line.
"The operation of SAMU has allowed us to respond more quickly to emergencies, ensuring that help reaches those in need without unnecessary delays,"
said Guluarte Castro.
Infrastructure and Operations
Currently, SAMU operates 28 ambulances that are managed by the State Government and staffed by qualified health professionals. The system is strategically present in La Paz, Comondú, Loreto, and Mulegé, with bases in various communities to ensure prompt emergency response.
To streamline the response to emergency calls, SAMU collaborates closely with the Emergency Regulatory Center (CRUM), which was also established during this administration. CRUM is responsible for managing emergency medical services in conjunction with the C5, municipal C2 centers, and the 911 system.
"The CRUM evaluates each medical emergency call with trained health personnel, utilizing communication radios and geolocation systems to ensure the nearest available ambulance is dispatched promptly,"
Guluarte Castro explained.
Future Developments and Enhancements
In a bid to further improve emergency medical services, Guluarte Castro announced plans to establish a CRUM in Los Cabos, which will expand coverage for medical emergency coordination in that region of the state. This initiative aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of emergency responses, ensuring that residents receive the necessary medical attention as quickly as possible.
"The upcoming CRUM in Los Cabos will significantly enhance our ability to coordinate emergency medical responses in that area, ultimately saving more lives,"
she added.
The establishment of SAMU and the CRUM reflects a commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure in Baja California Sur, ensuring that residents have access to essential medical services when they need them most. As these systems continue to evolve, they promise to provide even greater support to the community, reinforcing the importance of timely and effective emergency care.
