Efforts to Enhance Employment in La Paz

Third Intersectoral Meeting Focuses on Job Creation
The National Employment Service of Baja California Sur (SNE-BCS) convened its third intersectoral meeting aimed at boosting employment in La Paz for the year 2026. This initiative brought together various companies and institutions to exchange information on job opportunities and propose actions to promote formal employment in the region. The meeting underscores the commitment of local authorities to tackle employment challenges and enhance the economic landscape of Baja California Sur.
During the meeting, José Manuel Rojas Aguilar, the General Director of SNE, emphasized the importance of these gatherings in fostering dialogue between the business and institutional sectors. He stated,
"These meetings allow us to maintain dialogue between the business and institutional sectors, share job opportunities, and propose strategies that contribute to economic development."
Key Topics and Legislative Changes
Among the significant topics discussed was a presentation by a representative from the Mexican Institute of Public Accountants of Baja California Sur, who outlined a proposed reform aimed at gradually reducing the workweek. This reform seeks to decrease the working hours to 46 hours per week starting in 2027. Such changes are expected to not only improve work-life balance for employees but also enhance productivity in the workplace.
Additionally, the meeting introduced the newly formed Collective for Dignified Work, which aims to advocate for better working conditions and fair employment practices. This initiative reflects a growing awareness and responsiveness to the needs of workers in the region, aligning with broader national trends towards labor reform.
Employment Statistics and Future Initiatives
In terms of employment outcomes, the SNE reported that during the fifth year of the current administration, a total of 9,521 individuals were incorporated into formal jobs within the state. This figure highlights the ongoing efforts to connect job seekers with available opportunities and the effectiveness of the initiatives implemented by the SNE.
Looking ahead, the SNE announced that the last Employment Fair of 2026 will take place in La Paz on October 27, specifically targeting vulnerable groups. This fair aims to further bridge the gap between job seekers and employers, ensuring that those who may face barriers to employment have access to the resources and opportunities they need.
The commitment to enhancing employment in La Paz through these intersectoral meetings and initiatives reflects a proactive approach to economic development in Baja California Sur, fostering a collaborative environment that benefits both employers and job seekers alike.
