Youth Innovation Contest

A New Wave of Communication

In a remarkable initiative aimed at fostering creativity among the youth, the Municipality of La Paz, through its Youth Municipal Directorate, recently held the “Youth Innovators” contest. This event encouraged young participants to utilize digital platforms like TikTok and Facebook to create engaging science and technology videos. With 15 talented youths taking part, the contest not only showcased their creativity but also highlighted the potential of social media as a tool for education and communication.

The contest aligns with a growing trend where digital platforms are increasingly being used for educational purposes. Mayra Cisneros Nevárez, the General Director of Inclusion and Diversity, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating,

"This activity allowed us to recognize the talent of the youth from La Paz and their ability to use social media as spaces for dissemination, learning, and communication on topics of interest for new generations."

Recognizing Talent and Innovation

As part of the competition, monetary incentives were awarded to the winners, with each receiving 5,000 pesos. In the preparatory category, Danna Gissel Núñez Cota was recognized for her outstanding video on astronomy. Her work not only demonstrated her knowledge of the subject but also her ability to present complex information in an engaging manner suitable for social media audiences.

In the secondary category, the award went to a collaborative effort by Madelaine Dannae Tena Ugalde, Milka Alejandra Martínez Espinoza, and Thiago Alejandro Alcalá Castro, who created a video titled “Responsible Use of Technology.” This project highlighted the importance of digital literacy among young people, a crucial skill in today’s technology-driven world.

"We are proud to see our youth taking initiative and using their creativity to address important issues through digital media,"

said Manuel Antonio Álvarez Urías, the Municipal Director of Youth, during the award ceremony. His sentiments were echoed by council member Karla Citlalith C. Ramírez, who noted the significance of providing spaces for young people to develop their creativity and utilize digital tools for educational and outreach purposes.

Accessing the Creative Works

The videos created during the contest are now available for public viewing on the official social media accounts of the Youth Municipal Directorate of La Paz on TikTok and Facebook. This not only allows the participants to gain visibility but also encourages other young individuals to engage with science and technology topics creatively.

The initiative reflects a broader commitment by the Municipality of La Paz to support youth engagement and innovation. By leveraging popular platforms like TikTok, the contest has successfully tapped into the interests of younger generations, making science and technology more accessible and appealing.

As digital literacy becomes increasingly essential in modern society, initiatives like “Youth Innovators” play a crucial role in preparing young people for future challenges. The recognition of their work serves as an inspiration for others to explore their creativity and contribute positively to their communities. The contest not only celebrated the winners but also fostered a culture of innovation and collaboration among the youth of La Paz.
