A Gathering of Local Producers

The third edition of the Date Fair took place in the ejido Alfredo V. Bonfil, located in the municipality of Mulegé, bringing together 43 exhibitors who showcased a variety of products. From fresh dates to date bread, palm jewelry, ice creams, and liqueurs, the fair highlighted the productive activities and rich traditions of this vibrant community. The event not only serves as a marketplace but also as a celebration of local culture and agricultural heritage.

During the inauguration, José Alfredo Bermúdez Beltrán, the head of the Secretariat of Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Agricultural Development (SEPADA), emphasized the significance of date cultivation for the municipality. He noted that the ejido is home to 235 hectares of date palms, producing an impressive annual yield of 240 tons valued at 7.3 million pesos.

"This activity represents a source of income for producing families and contributes to the economic development of Mulegé,"

he stated, underscoring the fair's role in supporting local livelihoods.

Government Support and Community Involvement

Bermúdez Beltrán was joined by Edith Aguilar Villavicencio, the municipal president, and Silvia Uscanga Aguilar, the president of the Organizing Committee. Together, they highlighted the collaborative efforts behind the fair, which included various government departments and local institutions. The support from the state government is crucial in promoting and preserving the traditions and identities of each region in Baja California Sur.

"The state government continues to back producing communities and expressions that preserve the traditions and identity of each region of Baja California Sur, like this fair that reaches its third edition,"

Bermúdez Beltrán remarked, reinforcing the commitment to local agriculture and culture.

The fair serves as a platform for local artisans and producers to display their goods, fostering a sense of community and pride among residents. It also attracts visitors from outside the municipality, contributing to the local economy and tourism sector.

Collaboration for Success

The success of the Date Fair is attributed to the collaboration among various entities, including the Secretariats of Tourism and Economy, Urban Planning, Infrastructure, Mobility, Environment and Natural Resources, as well as the Ministry of Labor, Welfare, and Social Development. Additionally, the event was supported by the Instituto Sudcaliforniano de Cultura, the National Employment Service, the Mulegé City Council, the Autonomous University of Baja California Sur, and the Higher Technological Institute of Mulegé.

"I want to thank the collaboration of the departments and institutions that participated in organizing this event,"

said Bermúdez Beltrán, recognizing the collective effort that made the fair possible.

The Date Fair not only showcases the agricultural potential of Mulegé but also serves as a reminder of the importance of community engagement and support for local traditions. As the fair continues to grow, it stands as a testament to the resilience and creativity of the people of Baja California Sur, ensuring that their cultural heritage remains vibrant and relevant in today's economy.
