A Literary Initiative on Wheels

From October 19 to 22, Baja California Sur will host the “Letras Peninsulares, Letras al Norte” route featuring the Librobús “Leandro Valle.” This mobile library aims to bring literature closer to the public by offering around 10,000 copies of 2,000 different titles, with prices starting as low as 12 pesos. The initiative is spearheaded by the Fondo de Cultura Económica in collaboration with cultural institutions from the governments of Baja California Sur, Baja California, and Sonora.

The Librobús is not just a mobile bookstore; it represents a significant effort to foster a culture of reading among the population. By making books more accessible, the program seeks to ignite a passion for literature in communities that may have limited access to books and educational resources.

A Journey Across the Region

During its tour, the Librobús will make stops in key locations such as La Paz, Guerrero Negro, and Mulegé. It will also visit various educational institutions and public spaces, ensuring that people of all ages have the opportunity to engage with literature. The catalog available on the Librobús will include a diverse range of genres, including novels, short stories, poetry, essays, and children's literature.

"Our goal is to expand access to books and promote the love of reading among our communities,"

said a representative from the Fondo de Cultura Económica.

This initiative is particularly important in a region where access to books can be limited. By bringing literature directly to the people, the Librobús aims to create a more literate and culturally engaged society.

Cultural Activities to Enrich the Experience

In addition to offering books, the Librobús will host a variety of artistic and cultural activities. Notable participants include poet Thiasol Sánchez, who recently won the 2024 Hispano-American Poetry Prize for Children; storyteller Jorge Salvaje; and science fiction writer Pepe Rojo. The program will also feature musical performances and dance presentations, enriching the overall experience for attendees.

"We are excited to bring together literature and the arts in a way that engages the community and fosters creativity,"

remarked a cultural coordinator involved in the project.

These activities are designed to complement the literary offerings of the Librobús, making it a multifaceted cultural event that appeals to a wide audience. By integrating various forms of artistic expression, the initiative aims to create a vibrant atmosphere that celebrates creativity and imagination.

For those interested in the schedule and activities of the Librobús, the Instituto Sudcaliforniano de Cultura encourages the public to visit their social media pages or contact them directly at 612-12-2-11-16, available Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This initiative not only promotes reading but also fosters a sense of community through shared cultural experiences, making it a significant event for Baja California Sur.

"We hope that this initiative will inspire a new generation of readers and thinkers,"

concluded the representative from the Fondo de Cultura Económica.
