Baja California Sur Tops National Labor Market Index Again

A Remarkable Achievement
Baja California Sur has once again secured the first position in the labor market sub-index of the State Competitiveness Index (ICE) 2026, as reported by the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO). This recognition marks the second consecutive year that the state has achieved this honor, highlighting its robust labor market conditions.
The Secretary of Labor, Well-being, and Social Development, Omar Antonio Zavala Agúndez, emphasized the significance of this achievement, stating that it reflects the collaborative efforts of workers, businesses, unions, and various productive sectors in the region. He noted that maintaining this top position is not only a recognition of current conditions but also a commitment to further improvement.
"That Baja California Sur remains in first place nationally represents recognition of the conditions we have built in labor matters, but it also commits us to continue working to generate more formal jobs, expand training opportunities, and ensure respect for the rights of workers,"
he expressed.
Factors Behind the Success
According to the IMCO, several factors contribute to Baja California Sur's favorable position in the labor market. Among these are relatively high wages and low levels of informality, which are crucial indicators of a healthy labor environment. The sub-index also considers various metrics such as labor participation, education levels, wage inequality, and employment growth.
Zavala Agúndez pointed out that these indicators will guide the actions of the Secretary of Labor moving forward. The focus will be on labor linkage, skills training and certification, inclusion, and the protection of labor rights. The Secretary also emphasized the importance of maintaining coordination with productive sectors to enhance job opportunities.
"This recognition confirms that we are on the right path, but it also presents new challenges. We will continue working to improve labor conditions and translate them into greater benefits for Sudcalifornian families,"
he concluded.
Looking Ahead
The achievement of Baja California Sur in the labor market index is not just a badge of honor; it serves as a call to action for ongoing improvements. The state's leadership is committed to addressing the challenges that lie ahead, ensuring that the labor market remains competitive and inclusive.
With a focus on sustainable growth, the Secretary of Labor plans to implement initiatives aimed at enhancing the skills of the workforce and increasing formal employment opportunities. This approach is expected to create a more resilient economy that can withstand external pressures and provide better livelihoods for its citizens.
As Baja California Sur continues to set the standard for labor market excellence in Mexico, the collaboration among all stakeholders will be crucial in maintaining this momentum. The road ahead is filled with opportunities for growth and development, and the state is poised to leverage its competitive advantages to benefit all its residents.
