A Leading Destination for Foreign Investment

Baja California Sur has emerged as the leading state in Mexico for attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in tourism, with a remarkable total of $511.9 million secured from January to June 2026. This figure accounts for 41.4% of the national total, according to Maribel Collins, the head of the Ministry of Tourism and Economy (SETUE). This achievement underscores the state's growing reputation as a premier tourist destination, particularly among investors from the United States, Canada, and Spain.

"This result reflects the confidence that exists in Baja California Sur and the interest of investors in generating new projects in our state. However, for this administration, it is not only about attracting more investments but ensuring that they are developed responsibly and generate benefits for the communities,"

Collins stated.

The significant influx of foreign investment highlights the trust that investors place in the region's potential. Baja California Sur's natural beauty, cultural richness, and strategic location continue to draw attention from international stakeholders, making it a focal point for tourism development in Mexico.

Commitment to Sustainable Development

Collins emphasized that the state government is dedicated to promoting a model of tourism development that balances economic growth with social and environmental responsibility. This approach aims to create jobs and enhance opportunities for local families while preserving the unique natural heritage that characterizes the state.

"We are committed to ensuring that the growth of the tourism sector is orderly and that it includes measures to protect the territory, natural resources, and communities,"

she added.

The government is actively coordinating with various agencies across all levels of government to ensure that new projects comply with applicable regulations. This collaborative effort is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the region's ecosystems while fostering economic advancement.

Future Prospects and Challenges

Looking ahead, Baja California Sur faces the challenge of managing rapid growth in the tourism sector while safeguarding its environmental assets. The state must navigate the complexities of increased investment and tourism activity, ensuring that development aligns with the needs and values of local communities.

Collins reassured stakeholders that the administration is focused on sustainable practices. The goal is not only to attract investment but also to create a framework that supports long-term benefits for residents. This includes job creation, community engagement, and environmental stewardship.

"We are working to ensure that the growth of tourism in Baja California Sur is sustainable and beneficial for all,"

Collins concluded.

As Baja California Sur continues to lead the nation in foreign investment in tourism, the state's commitment to responsible development will be critical in shaping its future. The balance between economic growth and environmental protection will define the region's trajectory in the coming years, making it a key area of interest for both investors and residents alike.
