Baja California Sur Strengthens Tourism Collaboration at ASETUR Assembly

ASETUR Assembly Overview
Baja California Sur recently participated in the 71st Ordinary Assembly of the Association of Secretaries of Tourism of Mexico (ASETUR), a significant event aimed at enhancing collaboration among the country's tourism sectors. The assembly was led by Mexico's Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, and featured the presence of Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais, the Secretary General of UN Tourism. Maribel Collins, the head of the State Secretariat of Tourism and Economy (SETUE), represented Baja California Sur at this important gathering.
During the assembly, Collins emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination between the 32 federal entities, the Mexican government, and UN Tourism. This collaboration aims to exchange experiences that can diversify tourism offerings and expand opportunities across various regions of the country.
"We seek for tourism growth to translate into well-being for families and communities. In Baja California Sur, we work to ensure that this activity advances in an orderly, responsible manner with a social sense,"
she stated.
Commitment to Sustainability
Collins highlighted that the state's tourism policy aligns with international sustainability principles and the objectives of the 2030 Agenda. This includes a focus on decent employment, inclusive economic growth, responsible consumption, and the protection of natural resources. The commitment to sustainability is crucial as tourism plays a vital role in the economic landscape of Baja California Sur.
"The natural, cultural, and community heritage of our state represents a strength to promote balanced growth through actions that conserve our resources while generating benefits for the population,"
Collins added.
This approach not only aims to boost tourism but also ensures that the local communities benefit from the economic activities generated by this sector. The assembly served as a platform to discuss how to achieve these goals effectively.
Cultural Diversity and Future Strategies
During the assembly, Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais emphasized the cultural and territorial diversity of Mexico. She pointed out the importance of increasing visibility for artisan communities and their cultural expressions, which are integral to the country's tourism appeal. This perspective aligns with the broader goals of promoting cultural tourism and supporting local artisans.
Rodríguez Zamora echoed this sentiment, stressing the need to extend the impact of tourism to new regions and destinations through coordinated strategies with federal entities. This approach aims to ensure that tourism development is inclusive and benefits a wider array of communities across Mexico.
"We need to extend the impact of this activity to new regions and destinations through a coordinated strategy with the federal entities,"
she remarked.
Collins reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to maintain collaboration with federal authorities, UN Tourism, and the tourism sector. This partnership is crucial for consolidating an activity that preserves the heritage of Baja California Sur while contributing to the well-being of its population. The discussions at the assembly reflect a shared vision for a sustainable and inclusive future for tourism in the region.
