A Historic Achievement for Baja California Sur


Baja California Sur has made a remarkable debut at the 2026 CONADE National Paralympics, clinching its first two medals: a silver and a bronze in the discipline of para-swimming. This achievement was announced by the Instituto Sudcaliforniano del Deporte (INSUDE), highlighting the dedication and talent of the athletes representing the state.


The athletes competing for Baja California Sur are Carlos Iván Patrón Geraldo and Diego Mejía Patrón, both of whom have shown exceptional skills in their respective categories. Their performances not only showcase their individual talents but also reflect the growing support for para-sports in the region.


Carlos Iván Patrón Geraldo's Stellar Performance


Carlos Iván Patrón Geraldo stood out during the competition, earning a silver medal in the 100-meter freestyle event for the S14 classification. He completed the race with an impressive time of 1 minute, 36 seconds, and 19 hundredths of a second. Additionally, he secured a bronze medal in the SB8 breaststroke category, finishing the 100 meters in 2 minutes, 7 seconds, and 67 hundredths of a second.


"I am incredibly proud of my achievements and grateful for the support I have received from my coach and my family,"

said Carlos Iván after his races.


His coach, Linton Fritz Navarro Holm, who has experience in the Olympics and is part of the national para-swimming coaching staff, has played a crucial role in preparing Carlos for this level of competition. The training regimen and guidance provided by Linton have been instrumental in Carlos's success.


Diego Mejía Patrón's Competitive Spirit


Diego Mejía Patrón also made a significant impact at the event, finishing among the top 11 competitors in the 50-meter freestyle for the S14 classification, clocking in at 51 seconds and 20 hundredths of a second. In the 100-meter freestyle event, he recorded a time of 1 minute, 29 seconds, and 34 hundredths of a second, showcasing his determination and skill.


"I am happy to compete at this level and represent Baja California Sur. Every race is a learning experience for me,"

Diego expressed after his events.
