Meeting on Transportation

Meeting Highlights

The Governor of Baja California Sur, Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío, recently led a significant working meeting with representatives from the transportation and hotel sectors in Los Cabos. This gathering aimed to address the pressing issues surrounding public transportation in the municipality. Key figures in attendance included César Yáñez Centeno Cabrera, Undersecretary of Governance; Nathalie Veronique Desplas Puel, Undersecretary of Tourism; and Tania Carro Toledo, Undersecretary of Communications and Transportation from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT).

The meeting was a continuation of an agreement previously established in Mexico City, where authorities and sector representatives highlighted the need to create conditions for the orderly functioning of public transportation. Castro Cosío emphasized the importance of strengthening Los Cabos as a tourist destination and ensuring that the development of this sector translates into benefits for all involved.

"We must work together to ensure that our transportation system meets the needs of both residents and visitors,"

said Castro Cosío during the meeting.

Addressing Concerns from Transport Representatives

During the discussions, representatives from taxi and tourist transport unions raised concerns regarding irregular transportation practices, particularly those occurring within hotels in Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo. These practices have been detrimental to the established transportation services, leading to calls for more stringent regulations.

In response to these concerns, the Undersecretary of Governance acknowledged the positive outcomes achieved through enhanced operational measures. He expressed the department's commitment to continue working towards the regulation of the transportation sector.

"We recognize the challenges faced by established transport services and are dedicated to addressing these issues effectively,"

stated Yáñez Centeno.

Ensuring Compliance and Future Meetings

Both the Undersecretaries of Tourism and Communications and Transportation agreed on the necessity of adhering to existing regulations to maintain the quality of the destination. They pointed out that practices outside of regulation could negatively impact the perception of national and international visitors.

As a result of the meeting, it was agreed that evaluations would take place over the coming weeks to assess the effectiveness of the measures implemented. Additionally, a follow-up meeting is scheduled for October in Los Cabos, which will involve representatives from various levels of government and the hotel sector.

"Our actions must lead to improved operational conditions for transportation and contribute to the tourism development of Los Cabos,"

concluded Castro Cosío.

This collaborative effort marks a significant step towards enhancing the public transportation system in Los Cabos, ensuring it meets the needs of both locals and tourists alike.
