Advancing Educational Inclusion for Children with Cerebral Palsy in Baja California Sur

Raising Awareness on World Cerebral Palsy Day
On October 6, the world observes Cerebral Palsy Day, a moment to bring attention to the challenges faced by individuals living with this neurological condition. In Baja California Sur, the head of the Special Education Department of the Secretary of Public Education, Martha Julieta Espinoza Trasviña, emphasized the need to raise awareness about the barriers encountered by these individuals and to promote greater inclusion in various societal spheres.
"It is essential to make visible this neurological condition and to generate awareness about the barriers that those living with it face,"
said Espinoza Trasviña during a recent event.
In Baja California Sur, the Secretary of Public Education (SEP) is currently providing support to approximately 190 children with cerebral palsy through the Units of Service and Support for Regular Education (USAER) and the Multiple Attention Centers (CAM). These facilities are designed to cater to the unique educational needs of each child, ensuring that they receive appropriate educational support.
Quality Educational Support and Resources
The Multiple Attention Centers (CAM) are equipped with the necessary resources and trained teaching staff to deliver quality educational services. The strategies employed are tailored to meet the specific conditions of the students attending these centers. This personalized approach is crucial in fostering an inclusive educational environment where children with cerebral palsy can thrive.
"The CAM has the resources and trained personnel to offer quality educational services, with strategies aligned with the conditions of the students who attend these centers,"
explained Espinoza Trasviña.
As part of the commemorative activities for World Cerebral Palsy Day, special education schools participate in the annual march along the boardwalk of La Paz. This event aims to raise awareness about the rights of individuals with cerebral palsy and to promote more inclusive environments.
A Call for Continued Efforts in Inclusion
The head of the Special Education Department highlighted that this day serves as an opportunity to sensitize society and to continue working within the educational sector to eliminate barriers that limit the full participation of individuals with disabilities.
"This date represents an opportunity to sensitize society and continue working from the educational sphere to eliminate the barriers that limit the full participation of people with disabilities,"
she stated.
The ongoing efforts by the SEP in Baja California Sur reflect a commitment to inclusivity and the recognition of the rights of all children to receive a quality education. As awareness grows, it is hoped that more initiatives will emerge to support not only children with cerebral palsy but all individuals with disabilities, fostering a more inclusive society.
The importance of this initiative cannot be overstated, as it lays the groundwork for a future where every child, regardless of their abilities, has access to the education and support they need to succeed.
